THREAD BY EMMA WORKMAN

REHEARSED READING

MONDAY 1 APRIL

ROUNDHOUSE THEATRE, PART OF LA BOITE THEATRE COMPANY’S HWY FESTIVAL

Following our production of Yielding in 2018, Thread by Emma Workman is the second in Emma’s Let's Speak of the Unspoken series of plays, which gives voice to those grappling with issues and circumstances often swept under the carpet.

Informed by research, interviews, and first-hand accounts, Thread explores the bond between parent and child, challenging assumptions universally attributed to this relationship.

As the play opens, we meet Patrick and Natasha, a husband and wife whose son - who is living with a cognitive disability - has reached puberty. Following an altercation between mother and son, the family's world begins to unravel when they are faced with the decision to relinquish the boy from their care.

Confusing, confronting, and violent, the events that follow within the confines of the family home challenge the notion and definition of domestic violence.

Join us for a special rehearsed reading of this new play, presented as part of La Boite Theatre Company’s HWY Festival.
